Tassel making
Tassel making is a sub craft of passementerie, which is the making of elaborate trimmings such as tassels, braids, gold or silver cord, fringing or edgings for clothing or furnishings. Increasing amounts of passementerie today is manufactured in larger quantities on power machinery, by large manufacturers, and in many countries. However there are still few individual makers who work across the UK creating bespoke tassels entirely by hand.
Classic contemporary
The last couple of years showed a steady rising of classic contemporary style, which showcases modern, clean lines mixed with classic elements in a very limited, mostly neutral colour palette. This style is more focused on textures and finishes rather colours and patterns. New and innovative materials are being used to create tassels including leather, glass and metal.
Styling accessories
Tassels are great styling accessories because they are so versatile. Larger versions are great for tiebacks or wall hangings, mid size tassels are great for draping over books and boxes on shelves and tables. Smaller sized one can be used on cushions, throws, bolsters, door handles and knobs. Tiny tassels are fun fashion accessories for bags and jewellery. Literally there’s nothing you can’t adorn with a tassel!
About me
I am a classically trained professional interior designer . In my final year at uni I turned my attention towards interior textiles and soft furnishings. After graduation I started creating my own interior textiles including a trims and tassels. I discovered that the available tassel range on the market was too old fashioned and too ornate for contemporary styles. I saw a niche and started my tassel making journey then and there. Since then I made tassels for prestigious residential and commercial projects , worked alongside a lot of well known design studios as well as private clients.
